About Bug Collection

In Twilight Princess, you can collect 24 Golden Bugs that are hidden throughout all of Hyrule. Whenever you catch one, you can bring it to Agitha. There are two places that you might be able to find Agitha: in her home in the left hand side of South Castle Town or go outside Castle Town through the south gate and she is usually by the fountain or sifting through grass and flowers.

For the first bug you give her you receive the Big Wallet. For every single bug you give her, you receive 50 Rupees after that, except when you make a matching pair and she rewards you with 100 rupees (so that's 1800 rupees you can score from her). Give her all 24 Golden Bugs and you will receive the Giant's Wallet. It really does pay to collect these bugs in the end.

Ways to Find the Bugs

There are several things to finding these bugs that you should keep in mind that will make it easier to find them. First, there are two bugs per one location of Hyrule, which means, if you find a bug in Hyrule Field Faron Providence, you should keep looking in the same field for the mate, because it shouldn't be too far off (usually on the other side of the field).

Another key feature to the bugs is the distinctive sound that they make which will be key to finding them. When they are near, they make a metallic chiming sound that's almost impossible to miss if you are paying attention. Turn your TV up a little so you can listen for them.

Other ways that make it easier to spot them: since they have a golden glow, the best time to hunt for them is at night. You can easily spot one clear across the other side of the field. Another trick, if you are far enough into the game, use your wolf senses.

24 Golden Bug Locations

The list is organized as positioned in the game. The locations are named as they are in the bug collection screen. **This Guide was written for the Gamecube version.** So Wii players - west = east, east = west, right = left, left = right. Up, down, north, and south are still the same, however.

  1. Kakariko Village - Ant

Male - In Kakariko Village, it is hidden in the Graveyard. Go to the far north end where the hole to the Zora grave is located. The bug can be found on the ground beside the left tree.

Female - In Kakariko Village, from the pond, head northward. The door to the third house on the right is the only one not boarded up. Enter it, and lieing on the ground is the ant ready to be picked up.

  2. Great Bridge of Hylia - Mantis

Male - Head to the northend of the Great Bridge (the gigantic bridge high above Lake Hylia). As soon as you step on the bridge, turn to the left and look around the first pillar. You should spot the bug flying around it. It may take a moment or two for it to land so you can catch it.

Female - Head across the Great Bridge and go towards the south. Stop just before you get to the wooden bridge. Above you should still be rocks (or tree roots, or whatever it is). Look over to the right, high above you and you should be able to spot it. You will need to use your Boomerang or Clawshot in order to pull it towards you.

  3. Field West of Castle Town - Butterfly

Male - From the bridge leading into Castle Town, go to the left and follow the smudged path to a patch of pink flowers. The bug will be flying around them.

Female - From the bridge leading into Castle Town, go straight towards the path into the next section of the field. To the right of it, high above, will be a ledge with moss hanging down. Use the Clawshot to reach the ledge. The bug will be flying around a patch of pink flowers.

  4. Bridge of Eldin - Phasmid

Male - Head to the southern end of the Bridge of Eldin (the Bridge that is in the field north of Kakariko Village). As soon as you step on it, turn to the right and look around the pillar until you spot the bug. You will need either the Boomerang or the Clawshot in order to reach it.

Female - Go past the north end of the Bridge of Eldin and look up the wall direclty in front of you. Use the Clawhot on the grate hung on the wall and walk across the ledge. At the end of the ledge, you will find the bug hanging on the wall. You will need the Boomerang or the Clawshot in order to be able to reach it.

  5. Gerudo Desert - Dayfly

Male - Enter the Gerudo Desert and head to the southern wall. Follow it until you reach the center, near where a wooden gate that can broken by a boar is located. Head out towards the north and the bug should be flying somewhere near you.

Female - From the warp location in the south west jump off the cliff and head to the right. Not far you should find two trenches in the sand. Head to the left one (or the north most one) and inside, flying around, you should be able to find the bug.

  6. Field north of Hyrule Castle - Stag Beetle

Male - From the southwest entrance into this field, follow the right path. You will see a lone tree just beyond a small boulder. Look around on the trunk of the tree and you should be able to locate the bug.

Female - Heads towards the north end of the field and get onto the rocky overpasse that leads into the mountains. Take the lower path and follow the fences. Eventually you should come to a bombable boulder that hides a hidden cave. Look HIGH above you and you will find the bug at the very top of the rock. Use your Clawshot or Boomerang to retrieve it.

  7. Field south of Castle Town - Ladybug

Male - Exit Castle Town through the southern entrance and go down the steps past the fountain and down onto the grass. Turn to the left and you will see a rock tower jutting up towards the sky. Head straight for the rock, being careful of the monsters that around it. The Ladybug is normally located around the left side of the moss growing on the ricks, hidden in some flowers. However, the Ladybugs tend to give you a small chase, so it could be flying around nearby.

Female - Head back towards the water fountain on the steps. Facing it, turn to the left. The bug should be flying around the three trees or in the flower patch. Occassionaly it does fly away beyond the ledge, so you may have to wait for it to return.

  8. Field north of Kakariko Village - Grasshopper

Male - Exit Kakariko Village through its north exit. Go across the rockbridge-like area and onto the grassy plain. Immediately head to the right. Flying around somewhere nearby should be the bug you are searching for.

Female - Head towards Castle Town's eastern bridge. From there, head towards the north, following the cliff. Near the northern most area of this part of the field should be your bug flying around.

  9. Field of Faron Province - Beetle

Male - From the Faron woods exit, go northward, but turn to the left into a trench instead of heading towards the small bridge. You should find two trees in this small gully. On the second one you should find your bug.

Female - Head towards the path that enters into the part of the field near Kakariko Gorge, but turn to the left. The right wall you should notice is a ledge that you cannot reach. Follow this ledge to the very northern end. On the tree closest to the edge you will spot your bug.

  10. Kakariko Gorge - Pill Bug

Male - This is the area that leads into the southern entrance of Kakariko Village, most noteable by the gaping black cliff cutting through the land. Go up to the bridge that Midna helped you to fix back near the beginning of the game. Look to the left and lieing on the ground you will find your bug - somewhat hard to spot since it blends into the grass.

Male - Go across the wooden bridge and taking a right. Head for the few trees that you see near the edge of the gorge. The bug is hidden within a patch of flowers within the trees.

  11. Sacred Grove - Snail

Male - Once you have obtained the Master Sword, step out and face the broken and crumbled steps. To the left of the rubble, you will see a small hole or entrance. Go into the hole and immediately turn around. Just above the doorway is the bug you are looking for. Use the Clawshot or Boomerang to retrieve it.

Female - Enter into the Temple of Time and go down the staircase and turn to the right. In the corner where the staircase meets the wall you will find your bug a little bit above you on the wall. Use the Boomerang or the Clawshot to retrieve it.

  12. Zora's River - Dragonfly

Male - Warp to Zora's Domain and take a dive off the gigantic waterfall. Swim towards the left side of the pool and get onto land. Head up the path and you should spot the bug flying around a bunch of small crates.

Female - Outside the Fishing Hole you will see a building where you can rent a Canoe down the river. The bug is sitting on the grate just below the building where the river runs through. Use your Boomerang or your Clawshot to bring it close enough to you to catch it.
