Heart Piece Locations

Hidden throughout Hyrule are 45 different Pieces of Heart that you can collect in addition to the full Heart Containers you receive after defeating a boss. Below are the locations of these Pieces of Heart, organized by their location with dungeons listed at the bottom. The requirements are listed only if there is a chance that you do not have a certain item by the time you come across the Piece of Heart. Please remember to keep in mind that this guide was created for the GCN edition of Twilight Princess.

Dungeon 1: Forest Temple

1. Requirements: None. After having rescued the monkey to open up the door to the western room in the main chamber, burn down the spider web and enter. You will immediately see a Deku Like in front of you guarding a small alcove. Get above the Deku Like and throw a bomb into him to destroy him. Enter the alcove to receive your Heart Piece.
2. Requirements: Gale Boomerang. From the room mentioned above, find the door on the ledge and enter into the room where you encounter several Tile Worms. Make your way to the back of the room where you will see the wooden stairs that you climbed on top of to reach a monkey. Use your Gale Boomerang to blow out the nearby torches and these stairs will descend to reveal a small alcove with a chest.

Dungeon 2: Goron Mines

1. Requirements: None. Use your Iron Boots to get on top of the ceiling in a chamber after receiving the first piece of the Boss Key. In the northeast corner of the room is a small alcove in which rests a chest that contains the Piece of Heart.
2. Requirements: None. In the room with the expansive lake that you must dive into to enter through a small hole in a fence, make your way into the section where two Beamos are patrolling the entrance into the next room. Use your Iron Boots to climb up the left wall. At the top of the magnetic marble, take a left to find a chest sitting on a wooden platform. Open the chest to receive your Piece of Heart.

Dungeon 3: Lakebed Temple

1. Requirements: Clawshot. Enter into the main room with the moveable stairs. Look up at the ceiling and you will notice the gorgeous chandelier hanging there. Use your clawshot on the target that is above it to land on top of this chandelier. Once there, you will find a chest that contains your Piece of Heart.
2. Requirements: Clawshot, Water channeled into the room. On Floor 1F, divert the flow of water into the eastern room. Re-enter into the room with the swinging platforms to find the water level has risen dramatically. On the south end of the room you will find a bridge that had been absolutely useless but now it is raised and crosses over to a ledge. On the ledge, stand ontop of a switch to open the gate. You will need to fight two Lizalfos that come rushing out at you. Once the fight is done, stand on the switch and use your Clawshot to target the grates on the back wall. This will finally give you access to the chest on the other side of the gate which contains the missing Piece of Heart.

Dungeon 4: Arbiter's Grounds

1. Requirements: None. Enter into the room in which you saw the Poes disappear and gained their scent. Pass the main stair case on the right side and you will see a chest just beyond the sinking sand. Above the chest are Clawshot grates making it easy to access this area. Open the chest to obtain your Piece of Heart.
2. Requirements: Spinner. Enter into the west-most room on Floor B2, recognizable by the fact that it is a huge sand pit with several tracks for the Spinner. The chest is on the eastern most wall. In order to reach it, follow the tracks straight as soon as you enter the room. At the far end of the wall you will see some tracks going upwards. Follow them and they will take you up and then drop you into a huge pit with a gigantic spinning spike wheel. The chest is up the slope at the far end, guarded by a Stalfos.

Dungeon 5: Snowpeak Ruins

1. Requirements: None. Through the west door that Yeta opens for you and find your way to the gigantic spiral room where you have to take out a few Freezards locked up in cages. Make your way up to the very top and enter past a broken wall where the room is now dressed by a red carpet. Exam the floor in the southwest corner of the room. You should notice that there are cracks in the floor. Place a bomb on the section to blow a hole in the floor. Fall through it and enter into another room where there sits a chest that contains your Piece of Heart.
2. Requirements: Ball and Chain. In the very first room of the dungeon with the exit, find your way to the second floor, which is just a little ways further from the room mentioned for the above Piece of Heart. Use the chandeliers to cross over the length of the room (towards the exit) where there sits a chest on a small ledge. Open it to retrieve your Piece of Heart.

Dungeon 6: Temple of Time

1. Requirements: Dominion Rod. Once you have the Dominion Rod and the statue following you, head down to the first room (the second one you had previously visited) with the crystal you had to hit with your arrows in order to move the walls located on the fifth floor. With the strength of the statue, crash through those moveable walls. Position the statue on the switch to turn off the electric fence which allows you inside. Crash through the right wall in order to reach the chest with the Heart Piece inside.
2. Requirements: Dominion Rod. Now that you have the Dominion Rod, re-enter the room with the floor you moved by turning the huge key. Go to the fifth floor and re-enter the south room in which you had initially fought an Armos in order to receive a small key. Defeat the Baby Gohmas and go to the far end of the room. Use your Dominion Rod to coax a small statuette behind the fence onto a switch at the other end of the walk. Throw another statuette into the fence on the other side and do the same thing with this one. Once both switches are pressed down, a chest will appear containing your Piece of Heart.

Dungeon 7: City in the Sky

1. Requirements: None. On the 1st Floor, enter the circular room at the west-most part of the dungeon. On the second floor of the room, carefully navigate cross a narrow ledge to the south-most part of the room. Take care of some Keese and then go hand-over-hand across a small ledge. Take out the Baba Serpent hanging from the ceiling in order to reach the chest to receive your Piece of Heart.
2. Requirements: None. On the 3rd Floor, enter the open area of the dungeon in which you must clawshot onto Peahats in order to cross to new areas of the room. On the eastern side of the dungeon, go through the door. You will be faced with open air in which the only way to cross is by Clawshotting onto Peahats that span the area. Instead of going all the way across, though, at about the third or fourth, turn to the right to find another bridge of peahats going towards another door back into the previous room. This door will lead to another section that you couldn't reach before. To the left is a chest just on the edge of a ledge which contains the Piece of Heart.

Dungeon 8: Palace of Twilight

1. Requirements: Sol Orb #1. After you have gained your first Sol Orb, make your way to the first room you entered after arriving in the Palace. To the west part of the room is a wall of Shadow Crystals that the Sol Orb now clears up. Use your Clawshot in order to reach the chest on the ledge which contains the Piece of Heart.
2. Requirements: Master Sword of Light. After the Master Sword has been embued with the power of light, return to the first room in the east section of the palace. Use the sword to clear away the shadow fog and step on the light platform. Just before the platform starts to go south, face to the east and jump onto the ledge where a chest rests which contains your last Piece of Heart.
